Time’s a Changing – a few years in my art

I’veΒ  resisted putting my art stuff up here for a good long while, but since it’s the end of the year I thought I’d get nostalgic and look back at all the stuff I’ve done this year and compare it to some old stuff last year, just to reinforce the whole ‘oh lord how time flies!’ sentiment. lol

It’s weird what changes and what stays the same. Here’s hoping I’m improving…

New Year’s Eve ’09 – 10 :D

Wow, 2009’s been a fast year. Things seem to rush by nowadays. For me the workload and change in responsibilities has made it more hectic than ever! Feels like time speeds by faster, like flying down a hill on sledge, but it’ll be a fun ride πŸ˜‰

I hope you all have a wonderful close to 2009, and an epic life as we enter the new decade.

Don’t forget to hold on tight!

Art of the Day

http://steampunk-pics.com/

Not one particular artist, per se, but a wonderful collection of different art forms along the Steampunk Theme. The sheer time and effort and work put into these items of clothes, craft, jewellry and art are just phenomenal. The site’s also a great source of inspiration.

Lord of the Rings on Facebook

A great spoof where the Lord of the Rings characters meet Facebook. Status update hilarity ensues πŸ˜€

Music of the Day

For you guys and girls in the UK, you’ll probably recognise this song from an advert. I recently bought the ministry of sound’s new compilation album ‘anthems’ which is all 80s music and the full version was on it. I’m in love with it – i dare you not to clap along :p

So here it is: BlancmangeΒ  ‘living on the ceiling’

Since we were on the subject, here’s the Anthems album – it’s got 60 songs of 80’s goodness πŸ˜€
It’s impossible to listen to 80s stuff and not feel happier.
Anyways you’ve got Gary Newman, Tears for Fears, David Bowie, Paul Hardcastle, Soft Cell, Duran Duran, Blancmange, Japan, Blondie…you name it.

Ahh man. I’m hankerin’ for checking out the Reflex/Flares bar again. Cocktails + 80s cheese + bright colours = ❀

One of my favourite scenes from the great film ‘The 5th Element’, an alien opera song. Very kick ass.

Free Classic Audio Books

http://www.freeclassicaudiobooks.com/

There’s nothing better than snuggling up with a good book, and if you’re anything like me you often end up with a list of ‘classics’ that you feel you ‘have’ to read (after all, they’re supposedly classics for a reason, right?) but you’re too tight to fork out the cash for a book you’re not sure of.

Well here’s the answer πŸ˜€Β  Download classic books in audio form for you ipod/iphone and listen at your leisure

Human Marvels

One of my favourite sites – this is a completly fascinating project that researches and informs people on old ‘freakshow’ performers. It happily mixes my love of weird biology and history, and offers up a very fair and thoughtful analysis too, as well as being entertaining.

MIA

Hi everyone, sorry I’ve been missing in action for a couple of days. I made the move from uni back home for Christmas so didn’t manage to get around to updating. But I’m back now and as a little apology here’s an epic video for any Snatch or StarWars fans.

Enjoy!

Internet facts

http://www.onlineeducation.net/internet/

The internet’s certainly a defining movement of the late 20th-21st century, and we can only theorise how historically significant it is.Β  This entertaining and somewhat mind-boggling image is proof of the effect it has on our lives with pure information density.

…I wonder how many of those tweets people actually read though? I’ll go with next to none -haha

Dr Horrible’s Sing Along Blog

Amazing short series by Joss Whedon. great concept, with some familiar faces you’re bound to love. Just follow the links in youtube for the whole mini-series. If you enjoyed the Buffy ‘once more with feeling’ episode, you’re bound to love this.

A somewhat unsettling but infinitely interesting article on ‘2D love’ and how some otaku-style fans are getting so obsessed with their anime/game characters etc that they’re forsaking ‘3d’ real people for them. Surprisingly enlightening and fair article too, which is always good πŸ™‚

Music of the Day

Ooh two videos! Aren’t you lucky, lucky people? :p

On Wednesdays I play the RPG ‘Vampires: the Masquerade’ (oh yes, I have entered official geekdom, and I’m loving it!) – these are a couple of the songs from the soundtrack. the first one is awesome – but I’m a sucker for violins. the second one I just discovered and had to add since my very first character is a Malkavian (ie a crazy vampire) and I -think- this song is the Malkavian Clan theme tune. Correct me if I’m wrong. At any rate: enjoy!

Terrible Tuesday 15/12/09

Ah Tuesdays…

I finally got my essay submitted today, so i guess I can’t complain, but still :p

Today we’ve got a relatively special blog with a video theme (alongside your usual stuff), so kick back, grab your popcorn and enjoy.

Art of the Day

Today we head a little away from devianatart and into more professional stuff (though admittedly the two cross over) – I give you the wonderful fantasy art of Keith Thompson. Really lovely stuff in detail, style and imagination.

Team Four Star : Dragonball Z Abridged

THE best dragonballZ paraody you’re likely to ever see. It’s THAT good πŸ˜€ If websites had fingers, I’d slip a ring on this and marry it. I’ve been in stitches of laughter so often with this series. Enjoy

Zero Punctuation

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation

I’m a big fan of Zero pucntation’s reviews (this is an early video – it only gets better πŸ™‚ ) – they’re often hilarious, well done animation wise and snarky as hell. Updates every Wednesday too.

A friend introduced me to this gal’s channel and i’ve got to admit it’s hilarious – I was pleasently surprised. For someone who procrastinates so much I tend to stay away from just randomly trawling youtube. Love it and still exploring the videos myself – this is a great example:

Music of the Day

‘Lesser God’ by Toyah Wilcox

I love Toyah – yet again it’s a nostalgia thing. It’s 80s (which in itself is awesome), it pop-punky-sci-fi inspired, and i grew up with it. I recently got her newest album ‘in the court of the crimson queen’ and it’s great πŸ˜€ So here’s one song from it. Even if the music’s not your thing, you’ve got to appreciate the crazy makeup. Toyah’s the queen of dressing up for her videos. Move aside Gaga!

There’s something about Blazers – they’re just genrally awesome on both sexes. Mix that with some wicked patterns, a little punky-ness and some military/colonial embellishments and you’re set for a cool jacket.
